Cedarville University SIFE | Real Money, Real World

Real Money, Real World focuses on teaching middle school students how saving, spending and budgeting function in “real life.” Through our lessons and simulation, each student experiences the responsibilities an adult has in a hands-on way, learning to budget their paycheck provided by an individually assigned job for an assigned family size. Feedback from both students and teachers alike demonstrate that children enjoy the sessions, and have become more knowledgeable on the subject of personal finance.

Fall 2008: The RMRW CU SIFE team, headed by senior Shannon Young, partnered with Ohio State University’s Xenia extension office to bring 4 RMRW lessons and a real-world simulation to 85 fifth and sixth graders in Yellow Springs, OH. “I never knew that being an adult would be so hard!” a student commented, after participating in the simulation.

Spring 2010: Real Money, Real World will provide junior high students an opportunity to learn what it’s like to manage money as an adult. Ryan Matthews will be leading a team of students as they go into the Yellow Springs school district. Teaching dates will be February 8-11 with a simulation on the 15th.
