Cedarville University SIFE | Real Money, Real World
Real Money, Real World (RMRW) is a collaborative venture with The OSU: Xenia extension office. In this project, CU SIFE members enter into local elementary classrooms and teach kids about “life in the real world”. After 4 days of in-class lectures, SIFE helps run a simulation at the schools in which kids apply in an interactive manner the skills they just learned.
Time Commitment: 2-6 hours per classroom
Fall 2010: This year CU SIFE worked with Ohio State University’s Xenia extension office to bring Real Money, Real World to local schools. Currently we are bringing the program to Yellow Springs on November 16th. Spring 2010: Real Money, Real World provides junior high students an opportunity to learn what it’s like to manage money as an adult. Ryan Matthews led a team of students as they went into the Yellow Springs school district. Teaching dates were on February 8-11 with a simulation on the 15th. Fall 2008: The RMRW CU SIFE team, headed by senior Shannon Young, partnered with Ohio State University’s Xenia extension office to bring 4 RMRW lessons and a real-world simulation to 85 fifth and sixth graders in Yellow Springs, OH. “I never knew that being an adult would be so hard!” a student commented, after participating in the simulation. |
