Cedarville University SIFE | Ready, Sell, Dough!

Ready, Sell, Dough is a fun, dynamic and interactive project that teaches young children the basic principles of free enterprise. After educating students about business principles and practices, SIFE helps the students set up their own business. Students create a cookie company and sell their product to parents and other students. Success is tracked and results are calculated at the end of the week. This program has proven to be extremely successful, even catching the attention of other SIFE chapters. We have sold the rights of this program to Rio Grande University, encouraging other schools to make a difference in the lives of young children.

Spring 2008: Junior Molly Thomas and Sophomore Melissa Winkle headed the team that brought the Ready, Sell, Dough program to 4th grade classrooms at Spring Hill Elementary in Xenia, Ohio. CU SIFE members visited the school each afternoon for a week, teaching the students about forming a “company” and helped them develop their cookie marketing techniques – developing slogans, making posters, and even writing catchy songs about their product! On Friday, the students set up their booths in the cafeteria, and sold their cookies, making a profit of $120! This was all donated to a local charity, chosen by the students.

Fall 2009: In the fall of 2009 Cedarville SIFE continued its successful Ready, Sell, Dough program. A group led by Sophomore Rachel Horst went into Greenview Primary in Jamestown, Ohio to teach the program. The group went one day a week for several weeks teaching the students how to form their cookie company. This all culminated into four days where the students got to put what they learned into action.

Spring 2010: This spring CU SIFE will be bringing this program to another school. Sophomore Rachel Horst will once again be leading the group as we bring it to Xenia Christian School in Xenia, Ohio. We certainly look forward to this opportunity to have an impact on our local community! Definite plans will be posted soon.
