Cedarville University SIFE | Personal Finance Series

SIFE invites financial experts from the university to educate and train students on valuable topics related to personal finance. Students learn about investment opportunities, budgeting tips and strategies, ways to establish credit, and the importance of having a vision for their financial future. These seminars help students develop a foundational understanding of financial principles and increase campus awareness of financial responsibility well beyond the college years. In past years, CU SIFE has held a campus-wide event called Personal Finance Series, in which several speakers came and educated students on pertinent finance topics. Our goal was to add a second evening of personal finances, as well as have a speaker address the entire student body regarding these topics.

Fall 2008: In September, CU SIFE partnered with other campus organizations and Crown Financial Ministries to bring Dave Scobey and Christy Speer to speak to our campus during our daily chapel services, reaching our student body of more than 3,000 students, as well as any faculty and staff who attended. In addition, the speakers held afternoon sessions, drawing more than 450 students. We also held financial freedom sessions, open to the public, with 72 community members in attendance. More than 50% of those in attendance made tangible commitments to change the way they manage their personal finances. In addition, CDR radio broadcast interviews with each of the speakers, reaching 4.3 million people on their 14 radio stations!

Fall 2009: This Year SIFE partnered with Cedarville Career Services to host two nights. Career Services hosted the first night, and on Thursday, October 8 Cedarville SIFE welcomed three professional businessmen on to our campus to speak about subjects relating to personal finance.  Mr. Nick Stebner, Mr. Scott Simons, and Mr. Ron Thomas briefly spoke on Retirement Plans, Personal Investing, and Real Estate Investing.  Almost fifty students, faculty, and staff came to learn and enjoy pizza, fellowship, and refreshments.  In the words of one student, Personal Finance Evening enabled him to “ … better understand the processes and requirements of effective personal finance management.  CU SIFE extends gratitude to these three speakers for the success of this event.
