Cedarville University SIFE | Personal Finance Series
This is a seminar built around teaching students how to handle money wisely. It includes topics such as budgeting, buying homes, and credit scores. This is an easy, one-time commitment project that will give you greater knowledge on finances, and help others to learn those lessons too.
Time Commitment: 1-3 hours
Fall 2010: This year SIFE partnered with the Southern Baptist Convention and Crown Financial Ministries to host the It’s a New Day Conference. The event was held at Cedarville University on October 23, 2010. This program, which was led member of Crown, successfully taught Cedarville University students and members of the community about the importance of personal financial management. Fall 2009: This Year SIFE partnered with Cedarville Career Services to host two nights. Career Services hosted the first night, and on Thursday, October 8 Cedarville SIFE welcomed three professional businessmen on to our campus to speak about subjects relating to personal finance. Mr. Nick Stebner, Mr. Scott Simons, and Mr. Ron Thomas briefly spoke on Retirement Plans, Personal Investing, and Real Estate Investing. Almost fifty students, faculty, and staff came to learn and enjoy pizza, fellowship, and refreshments. In the words of one student, Personal Finance Evening enabled him to “ … better understand the processes and requirements of effective personal finance management. CU SIFE extends gratitude to these three speakers for the success of this event. Fall 2008: In September, CU SIFE partnered with other campus organizations and Crown Financial Ministries to bring Dave Scobey and Christy Speer to speak to our campus during our daily chapel services, reaching our student body of more than 3,000 students, as well as any faculty and staff who attended. In addition, the speakers held afternoon sessions, drawing more than 450 students. We also held financial freedom sessions, open to the public, with 72 community members in attendance. More than 50% of those in attendance made tangible commitments to change the way they manage their personal finances. In addition, CDR radio broadcast interviews with each of the speakers, reaching 4.3 million people on their 14 radio stations! |
